I have always been interested in art throughout my life, and eventually enrolled in classes at a local Community College. One of the courses was Basic Photography and was hooked after that fall semester. My first film camera was a Minolta 35mm which I would take to Ricketts Glen State Park and look for images to photograph. Then I learned about Ansel Adams and immediately he became an inspiration in my photography. After my epiphany I was able to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography from Marywood University.

From my 35mm next came the Mamiya Twin Lens Camera, then the Zone VI 4x5 Viewcamera (see Below) which I photographed with over 25 years. Then I built a shed which was turned into a darkroom where I could develop film and print my negatives. It was always exciting to see new imagery in the prints as they appeared in the developer tray. I enrolled in many photography workshops, and with John Sexton whom I consider my mentor I learned to hone my skills as a photographer. However, since the advent of digital photography film supplies have been disappearing, and due to unforeseen circumstances, I lost my darkroom. The good news is that there are still sources for film and analog supplies, but for my darkroom it is basically impossible to recreate. What next, digital photography?

My inside joke was should I turn to the dark side, Star Wars reference aside, I finally delved into digital photography. So, the last few years I have been learning to use my Sony Digital Camera, or better put a little computer in my hands, yikes! After many photography trips I’m starting to get a handle on the digital camera. I also have been taking courses on Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop. What I find fascinating at this time how easily my analog skills are transferable to the world of digital photography. Now, with this website please join me as I continue my photographic journey.
